Gamlehaugen - royal residence

Oppdatert: 17. mar.

This winter one of my photo projects was to take pictures of Gamlehaugen, the royal residence in Bergen. Whenever the royal family visit the town, they stay in this chateau.

There are few majestic buildings in Bergen. I think this is the only one that gives you the vibe of a real castle. As it is located away from the city centre it is often overlooked by the tourists as well as the locals. It is however a beautiful photo spot, especially during winter with all the snow.

It has a big garden and is located next to the lake Nordåsvannet.

Christian Michelsen, Norway's prime minister when Norway withdrew from the union with Sweden in 1905, built this chateau in 1901 as a residence for himself and his family.

During summer they have guided tours in the building.
